Stoma Counselling Service

Living with a stoma and looking for someone to talk to? With our specialist stoma counselling service and mental health support, help is just a phone call away.

With our counselling service, help is just a phone call away.

Wherever you are on your stoma journey, from pre and post-surgery to living your stoma life, it’s ok not to be ok.

You might be struggling to adjust, have low self-esteem or feeling anxious or depressed. Untreated, these feelings can sadly worsen over time. Simply talking to someone who knows exactly what you’re going through can be a great help. Which is why, as an Amcare™ Group customer, you can access our free, specialist stoma counselling service – the only free service of its kind in the UK:

  • 6 x 60 mins free counselling sessions (more if needed)
  • No long waiting lists - appointments usually start in 10-14 days
  • Over the phone or video call
  • Experienced, compassionate, fully trained stoma Counsellors

A compassionate ear and a helping hand

Anyone with a stoma who’s an Amcare customer and aged over 18, their partner or parents of children with a stoma can benefit from our free stoma counselling. We’ve helped people at every stage of their stoma journey simply by listening and advising.

Sylvia's Story

One person who found our service particularly helpful and was happy to share her story was Sylvia. After having colostomy surgery, Sylvia found it difficult to come to terms with her stoma and reached out to an Amcare counsellor who helped rebuild her self-confidence and love life again.

“Without support, I would not be the person I am now. With the help of my counsellor, I have accepted my stoma is part of me now. I found the counsellor kind and patient – I cannot thank her enough.”

Meet our Stoma Counsellors

Many people find it difficult to talk openly about their stoma to people who have no experience of what they’re going through. Our Amcare counsellors are different. They’re all stoma specialists.

Some have stomas themselves and are happy to pass on the support they themselves received, while others are simply passionate about the effect counselling can have. All are fully trained and between them, their expertise covers all aspects of counselling, including specialist services such as Therapeutics, Marriage and Sexual guidance, Spiritual support and Bereavement.

No long waiting lists

We make our free stoma counselling as accessible as possible to take the strain off you and the NHS. Mental health provision throughout the UK is overstretched, which means that getting an appointment through your GP can take anywhere between 6-9 months on average. Since our sessions are only open to Amcare customers, your counselling can start almost immediately after we’ve received your consent and pre-evaluation.

By phone from the comfort of your home

We want you to feel as relaxed as possible. Which is why our counselling sessions are held one-to-one, over the phone or by video call. Every session is held in the strictest of confidence and your Counsellor will respect your privacy at all times.

Arranging your free counselling is easy

We’re proud to offer this free service and our counsellors are passionate to help as many people as possible. So please, don’t suffer in silence, get in touch with us today.
